about

originally a 2015 demo tape containing two demos, a cover and a remix. digitally repurposed as an odds-and-ends compilation. some of these are officially released, some are just undoctored and unedited files from my hard drive. all proceeds from this will be donated to black lives matter uk.

tracks 1-4 originally on "aesthetic pain" demo tape, released by bone orchard. track 4 is a nirvana cover, track 3 remixed by debutante. debutantemusic.bandcamp.com

track 5 originally appeared on a 2013 split with dayruiner (rip). there were two other tracks but i fucking hate them. dayruiner.bandcamp.com

track 6 and 7 were recorded on my first christmas day alone. i got real drunk and depressed and isolated myself in a tiny bathroom with an sm57 poking through the door and my acoustic banging against the tile walls. track 6 melted from a pitifully-written family trauma ballad into the dull ambient fever that appears on "ifrit". track 7 is one of my favourite songs, recorded on the fly. shouts out to chris from debutante for always saying how they liked this cover. those two recordings were the first time i tried to record my voice without covering it in effects. it is uncertain, off-key, and embarrassing, but it was a bit step for me at the time, and i am grateful for it.

track 8 was an amateurish improvised drone recorded in 2014 in solidarity with the ferguson protestors. there was an edited version with audio samples layered over the top, but that, like many other files has been lost on an old drive.

tracks 9 and 10 were some improvised covers i put on tumblr in 2016 after not sleeping for like, two days. the smiths cover was more done in the style of deftones' version. fuck morrissey. i think my voice got a little better in the space between that, and those other christmas recordings. it's nice to notice these things and be happy for improvements in yourself.

anyway, i think that's all. there was a lonesummer cover, a bunch of different loose drones, and some other improvised early recordings which bordered on black metal and noise, but those have either been lost, or i am not comfortable with releasing it for fear of horrific embarrassment at my younger self.

i'm in a new project called beheading. it's different, but to me feels like the thematic spiritual successor to this project. check us out, i'd really appreciate it.

thanks to anyone who has supported this foolish, amateurish project of self-education, pain, growth, and youth over the years. peace be on all of you.
